McCoole Residents Attend Meeting Regarding Closing Of Volunteer Fire Department

With finances dwindling and personnel shrinking under questionable fiscal management of the McCoole Volunteer Fire Department- the Allegany County Commissioners decided in April to close the operation- and last week approximately 60 concerned citizens attended a public meeting to get some answers.
Many citizens voiced confusion as to how a once solid organization had fallen into such a state of disarray that the community fire station ended up nearly $1 million in debt and the building in foreclosure. The McCoole fire house is set to be auctioned off tomorrow. The meeting was hosted by Dick DeVore, director of the Department of Emergency Services for Allegany County- and was also attended by County Commissioners Mike McKay and Bill Valentine. Valentine said that the citizen’s haven been assured that more than adequate fire service will remain in the McCoole area…
