Maryland House of Delegates 1C-elect Mike McKay tells WCBC News that he is encouraged by the news announced this week that the Verso Corporation has completed its acquisition of NewPage. The transaction, valued at approximately $1.4 billion, means Verso will have approximately $3.5 billion in annual sales and approximately 5,800 employees in eight mills across six states. As part of the deal, NewPage completed the divestiture of its paper mill in Biron, Wisconsin, and its pulp and paper mill in Rumford, Maine, to Catalyst Paper Operations Inc., a subsidiary of Catalyst Paper Corporation. McKay, who served as an Allegany County Commissioner prior to running for the house 1C seat, said that it is his understanding the local Luke Mill, where some 800 are currently employed, will not be negatively impacted…
