McKay Hopes to Add Western Maryland to New-Elected Tour

November 27th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

For several years when he served in Annapolis, former House Speaker Casper Taylor would organize day trips to Allegany County for newly elected general assembly members to let them get a feel for the area and a better understanding of this part of the state. There had been an old cliché that Maryland stops in Frederick- and Taylor worked to put that myth to an end by showcasing the region. Unfortunately, it seems as though there has been a return to that mindset down state- and House 1C Delegate-elect Mike Mckay tells WCBC News he’d like to change that. On Wednesday, Mckay and other newly elected delegates were invited by Speaker Michael Busch for lunch and a tour of the state house. An official orientation is scheduled for next month and at that time,  Mckay says he hopes to convince the speaker to re-new the visits to Allegany and Garrett counties- although ironically the first tour of the state falls well short of western Maryland….
