A meeting between the Allegany County Board of Education, County Commissioners and the executive director of Maryland’s Interagency Committee on School Construction on the new Allegany High School project- apparently did not sit well with some county officials. Although the meeting, which included Dr David Lever who heads up the IAC, was closed to the media and the public- WCBC News has learned through several sources that the primary theme focused on the county coming up with significant additional dollars to complete the funding package. Sources say it was also made apparent that there is little desire on the part of school officials to scale back the project to move closer to the original projected cost of $42 million as opposed to the estimated $60 million coming from contractors who placed bids. A second meeting that will include engineers from the county and the school board, facilities supervisor Vince Montana and the architect is set for this Thursday. A third meeting may be scheduled to include the District 1 Legislative Delegation. Despite the substantial budget shortfall, Delegate Mike McKay remains optimistic the project will come to fruition….
