McKay Sets ‘Section 8′ Story Straight

December 15th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

In a call to WCBC’s Dave Norman Program to clear up confusion, Delegate Mike McKay updated the story on Section 8 vouchers that were approved by the state. Originally, it was thought that 70 Section 8 vouchers were awarded to Baltimore city citizens moving to Cumberland; however, as McKay reported, the 35 Section 8 vouchers were awarded to Cumberland residents out of the 350 across the state. McKay stressed that the letters sent were Allegany County residents – not Baltimore City residents looking to relocate.

Delegate McKay says there should be a barometer and a friendly balance between subsidized housing and other housing around the area.

McKay said he is not interested in discriminating against Section 8 housing, but he is interested to see how a rise in Section 8 may affect an area like Allegany County.
