McKay Won’t Endorse More Funds of Canal Place

October 1st, 2013 by WCBC Radio

Allegany County Commissioners President Mike McKay has informed Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority Chairman Andy Vick that he won’t endorse any strategy that would see local public funds continuing for the Authority. In addition, his letter states that it might be time to consider an alternative management and operational approach to bridge the funding gap it now faces. Vick sent a letter last month to Mckay and Cumberland Mayor Brian Grim detailing the current fiscal struggles impacting Canal Place and requesting ongoing funding from both.  Mckay, who along with Grim serves as a member of the Authority Board, emphasized that both local governments have lived up to their agreed upon financial support for Canal Place for a five year period- and its now time for Canal Place to become a self sustaining entity.
