MD Budget Secretary Says Continuing To Deal With Shortfalls Was A Painstaking Process

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan rolled out an ambitious budget at the start of this year’s General Assembly session-  proposing what some call impossible— providing record increases in spending for education and other programs, increases for police and targeted tax cuts while simultaneously spending less.  That budget is now in the hands of the House Appropriations Committee and then will make its way to the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee for review and amendments. How the governor’s budget looks at the end of that process is anybody’s guess. Budget and Management Secretary David Brinkley says it was a painstaking process to continue to deal with shortfalls from previous years while drafting a sound fiscal plan for the future…
