Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot tells WCBC News that tax fraud has reached "epidemic proportions," and he called on state lawmakers to give his office more authority to combat it. He singled out Liberty Tax Services for filing return after return this tax season that his investigators have flagged as questionable. Franchot's office has suspended processing returns from more than 60 tax-preparation businesses. Of those, 24 are Liberty Tax franchises. Typical problems with the returns have included individuals reporting business income when they didn't own a business, requesting refunds much higher than previous tax returns, inflated or undocumented business expenses and dependents being claimed improperly…
