MD Immigration Advocates Bracing To Protect Undocumented Immigrants

In the wake of the Nov. 8 election, immigration advocates in Maryland have been bracing themselves to protect the rights of the Latino community’s most vulnerable population — the undocumented. As President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take office, Hispanic immigrants and the organizations behind them are waiting to see whether the new administration will follow through on his pledges to deport those who are in the U.S. illegally. Sirine Shabaya, a civil rights and immigration attorney in Maryland, says that Maryland’s record on immigration is a mixed bag.  She says while voters easily approved the “Dream Act” which allows undocumented immigrants access to higher education- more recent comments by Governor Larry Hogan has set a different tone…
