MD Senate Presidents Asks Senate To Consider “Doomsday Budget”

Week eight of the 2012 Maryland General Assembly Session begins this week with the first hearings on a state budget. Tomorrow, the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee holds a hearing on a budget bill. On Thursday, the House Appropriations and Ways & Means Committees do the same. WBAL reports the starting point for the discussion is the $15.3-billion general fund budget the governor unveiled last month. It includes a series of tax increases and changes that will generate $311-million in new revenue, and $800-million in spending cuts. Senate President Mike Miller has asked senators to consider a "doomsday budget."  That budget would contain an additional $700-million in cuts, but it would contain none of the tax increases or changes in the governor budget, and it would not include a pension shift…
