MD Still Deciding Who Gets Casino License

December 7th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

The state commission that will decide who gets a casino license in Prince George's County heard from consultants Friday that favor a bid from MGM. WBAL reports as many as six consulting firms evaluated everything from traffic to local economic impact. The presentation was made Friday before the Maryland Video Lottery Terminal Location Commission.

Two studies found that MGM's National Harbor would generate the most money.  MGM also came out on top in terms of a transportation plan and convenience. In addition, consultants estimate that MGM would pay the state more in gambling taxes than the other bids.  Those findings were disputed by MGM’s competition such as Parx Casino in Fort Washington and Penn National at the Rosecroft Race Track. Experts told the commission however, that once in operation in 2016, a Prince George’s County casino would siphon between 20% and 23% of the revenues from Maryland Live! in Anne Arundel County and 12% to 14% of gaming revenue from Baltimore City’s Horseshoe Casino. The state commission plans to award the casino license December 20th
