Medical Marijuana In Maryland An Uphill Battle

A Maryland commission took the first steps last summer toward developing a plan to legalize medical marijuana in the state of Maryland- but it still appears a long way from reality.  The 18-member, state-appointed group is scheduled to work through May of this year on the feasibility of legalizing the drug for medical use. Medical marijuana is now legal in 17 states and D.C.  Medical marijuana has received increasing bipartisan support in Maryland's Democrat-controlled General Assembly, with legislators even floating a proposal last year to set up a state-run production and distribution system.  Several citizens addressing the District One delegation last week at Allegany College of Maryland urged the local lawmakers to push for the law- and while sympathetic to those who could use the drug as a pain reliever as a result of medical conditions- Delegate Kevin Kelly says it an uphill battle…
