Medical Marijuana Program Approved In Maryland

May 6th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

Maryland last week became the 19th state to approve a medical marijuana program. The bill, known as House Bill 1101, received final approval from the Maryland General Assembly on April 8. The medical marijuana bill allows academic medical research centers to establish programs to dispense marijuana to sick patients. Program applications will be required to specify qualifying medical conditions for treatment; treatment duration and dosage; where marijuana would be obtained; sources of funding; and a plan for monitoring data and outcomes. The bill was sponsored by Baltimore County Democratic Delegate Dan Morhaim. Maryland Health and Mental Hygiene Secretary Dr. Joshua Sharfstein Morhaim said that once the law takes effect on October 1, the state will have to set up a commission to run the medical marijuana program.  He expects medical marijuana to be available to patients sometime late next year…
