Meeting On Goverment Service Consolidation Today

In preparing for today’s public forum on combining or consolidating municipal and county government services, the Cumberland Mayor and City Council conducted a special work session Tuesday afternoon to formulate a priority list of items to address with the Allegany County Commissioners. The commissioners organized the two hour session that will be held this afternoon at Allegany College of Maryland. A variety of issues ranging from EMS services; tax offices; law enforcement and street maintenance were discussed- including the concept of the city voting itself out of existence to fall under the umbrella of county control. That notion was broached by councilman Butch Hendershot who said it might be the best long term solution to achieving substantial tax relief for area citizens…
