The future of Canal Place and the Footer Dye Works building may become a bit more clear later today when all of the players take part in a meeting in the Annapolis office of State Senator George Edwards. Canal Place is facing serious funding issues, and has been seeking commitments from Allegany County and the city of Cumberland to help stabilize the fiscal picture. In addition, yet another attempt to attract a private commercial developer for the Footer building is getting underway in the near future. Earlier efforts have failed. Members of the legislative delegation, County Commissioner Mike McKay, Mayor Brian Grim as well as representatives of Canal Place and the Governor’s office will attend today’s meeting. Edwards tells WCBC News that there are any number of possibilities on the table to consider….
