The Maryland Emergency Management Agency has estimated the damage from flash flooding in Allegany and Washington Counties.
According to MEMA Executive Director Ken Mallette (Mah-let-tee), the June 12th flooding caused $1.7 million in damages in Allegany County and just under $1.5 million in damages to Washington County.
In short, the damage was enough to receive assistance from public agencies, but not enough to qualify for federal disaster assistance.
Mallette said that over 200 residences were damaged in the floods, but most of the damage was not of a major nature. He said there would be an effort to make low interest loans available for homes and businesses to repair damage not covered by insurance.
