Superintendent Cox says Mental Health a Major Focus For School Safety program

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre a year ago renewed the national debate on guns and school safety, turned some victims' parents and surviving students into political activists and at least temporarily ended the local sheriff's career. But this week’s anniversary was primarily about remembering the 14 students and three staff members who died in the third high-profile mass shooting in Florida since 2016. Since that tragedy, school systems across the country have been re-evaluating security and safety measures. Allegany County School Superintendent Dr David Cox tells WCBC News that in the past year, while the efforts to secure funding for additional school resource officers, there has also been a major focus on the mental health component…
