A pilot says he had to put his small plane down in a farm field near Frederick after experiencing engine trouble.
Authorities say the pilot was not injured, and the FAA is investigating.
Maryland State Troopers were notified that a small airplane had gone down in a farm field near Bill Moxley Road on Saturday. The plane was on it's roof when help arrived.
The pilot, who refused medical treatment, said he was flying from Clearview, Maryland, to Leesburg, Virginia when the engine problems surfaced.
Meanwhile, a Carroll County man is being treated for injuries he sustained Friday morning when his ultralight aircraft crashed near his home soon after take off.
The pilot and only passenger is identified as Ronald O. Bonnette, 66, of Taneytown, Md. He is undergoing treatment at the Carroll Hospital Center.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m. today, troopers at the Maryland State Police Westminster Barrack were dispatched to a reported plane crash in the 3200-block of Kump Station Road, Taneytown, Md. Fire and EMS personnel had also responded to the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates Bonnette housed his Rans Coyote ultralight aircraft at the home of a neighbor, who has a grass airstrip. Bonnette told State Police investigators he was taking off from the grass strip this morning when the aircraft suddenly lost power. He descended and landed hard on the landing gear.
There was no fire. No one was injured on the ground.
The Federal Aviation Administration was notified. An FAA investigator responded to the scene.
