CUMBERLAND — A Midland man was arrested Thursday morning on charges of distribution and possession of child pornography, Maryland State Police said.

Christopher John Kenney, 27, was charged with six counts of possession of child pornography and three counts of distribution of child pornography. He was being held at the Allegany County Detention Center without bail. Police said the arrest revolved around an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that began in May and centered around alleged offenders sharing files of child pornography. Kenney was arrested without incident about 5:10 a.m. Thursday, when state police served a search warrant at his residence.

A check of Kenney's electronic devices allegedly revealed multiple child pornography files. Maryland State Police Cumberland Barrack and Homeland Security Investigations assisted in the investigation. The Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Unit coordinates the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Task force investigators focus on identifying those involved in child pornography via the internet and other related crimes that victimize children. This task force is a combined law enforcement effort involving police departments across Maryland, made possible in part due to grant funds provided by the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention and by a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
