Mike McKay Expected To Announce Plans To Run For Maryland House Of Delegates Seat

The 2014 election in Allegany County could get more interesting today as County Commissioners President Mike McKay is expected to announce his plans to run for a seat in the Maryland House of Delegates. The first term commissioner has scheduled a press conference this afternoon in front of the county office complex. McKay, a republican, filed for re-election to the county seat in mid-April, however less than a month later District 1C Delegate Leroy Myers made the surprise announcement that he would not seek another term in the House. Myers, also, a republican is in his second term representing Allegany and Washington counties in Annapolis. Myers, who has indicated he’ll announce his future political plans in September, told WCBC News that he made his announcement early in an effort to allow adequate time for anyone wishing to run for the state seat to put together a competitive campaign. Myers says whoever takes the 1C seat needs to be prepared to fight hard for the region…

    What concerns me is that Commissioner McKay has a young family. He will be away a lot. A man’s real legacy is his family. I do know we need someone from our region to stand up for Western Maryland, but I am not sure this is the correct person although he is qualified.
