Mikulski To Speak On Gun Control

On Monday,at approximately 3:15 p.m., U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.), Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and the Commerce, Justice, Science (CJS) Appropriations Subcommittee, will speak out on the Senate floor calling for action to pass amendments to strengthen gun laws and curb gun violence, while also ensuring FBI law enforcement has the tools they need to keep American communities safe.

Following the tragic mass shooting in Orlando, Senator Mikulski introduced an amendment with Senator Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) to fully fund the FBI. This amendment increases funding for counter-terrorism efforts and supports active-shooter training grants for law enforcement across the country. Senator Mikulski has also cosponsored an amendment led by Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) to close the terror gap and prevent suspected terrorists and those on the “No Fly” list from purchasing guns. More details on the amendment are available here.

Senator Mikulski’s remarks build on a filibuster led by Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) supporting crucial amendments to keep guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists and strengthen gun laws to curb gun violence. She will speak out in support of his amendment to close the gun show loophole and expand background checks for private gun sales.
