November 1st, 2013 by WCBC Radio

U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), a senior member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, Thursday participated in a hearing entitled Attaining a Quality Degree: Innovations to Improve Student Success. The hearing is the second in a series of hearings as the Senate works to reauthorize the Higher Education Act. Prior to his testimony before the Committee, Senator Mikulski introduced University System of Maryland Chancellor Dr. William Kirwan. Mikulsi said that Kirwan, like higher education across our nation, has faced declining state aid, rising tuition costs and increased change. He established something he calls the Effectiveness and Efficiency Initiative, in which he has brought new ideas to the schools and brought along the faculty. She added that the Senate will learn a lot from listening to him…
