Mineral County prosecuting attorney offering little details on two recent cases

February 17th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

Efforts by WCBC News  to garner information and/or the opinion of  Mineral County’s Prosecuting Attorney over two recent incidents have been less than successful thus far. WCBC News sent a series of questions to Cody Pancake pertaining to the recent sentencing of Cheryl Shipley, the former Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department treasurer who embezzled more than $300,000 in company funds. Her punishment essentially will see her serve 120 days in jail, with those days served on weekends; and a monthly restituation payment with the amount set at  $400.. Many viewed that as a relatively lite sentence given the amount stolen. The response from Pancake’s office was to simply outline the sentence details, while declining to offer an opinion. It was suggested that that members of the fire department could be available for comment. The second case centered on a late December shooting incident in the Fort Ashby/Short Gap area between two women in an apparent domestic dispute. One of the women was hospitalized as a result of the gun shot. To date, close to two months later, no details including names, investigation status or possible charges have been released. The response to questions about that case was a simple “no comment”.
