Mineral County Teacher of the Year Awarded

The Cumberland Times News reports Rebecca Stark, a first grade teacher at Keyser Primary School, has been named as Mineral County’s 2016 Teacher of the Year. “Being selected as Teacher of the Year is an honor and is extremely humbling,” said Stark. Stark has been teaching at Keyser Primary for eight years, four of which she spent as a first-grade teacher. Prior to that she was a gifted studenets teacher for four years.

Stark has bachelor’s degree from Frostburg State University in elementary education and a master’s degree in special education from West Virginia University.

Angela Shanholtz, a mathematics teacher at Frankfort Middle School, was selected as Mineral County’s 2015 Teacher of the Year.

Stark was nominated by fellow colleague and first grade teacher Krista McKenzie. Stark along with nominees Donald Shumaker, a social studies teacher at Keyser Middle School and Kimberly Eyler, a science teacher at Frankfort Middle School will be honored during a dinner May 12 at 6 p.m. at the Bonnieview Apostolic Church.
