The Cumberland Times News reports a man was found deceased in Savage River State Forest near Pine Swamp Road and a second person who had reported her companion missing was being treated for hypothermia at mid-morning Wednesday. According to Candy Thomson, director of public relations for the Natural Resources Police, the male victim was located by the Maryland State Police medevac helicopter. The woman “walked out of the woods on her own power," Thomson said.An ambulance was reportedly sent to the 2300 block of Pine Swamp Road in Garrett County at about 8:30 a.m. for response to a report of an injured female at that location. A short time later, radio communications indicated a search was being formed to locate the missing man. The man’s body was located a short time later during an aerial search by the helicopter. Thomson said eight NRP officers were on the scene along with a K-9 unit and an investigator. Thomson said it was 2:15 a.m. Wednesday when NRP personnel responded to the area after the agency received information that a man and woman had driven to the state forest and had not been seen since 5 p.m. Tuesday. Ti-Towns Rescue Squad and the Good Will Volunteer Fire Department were among departments who also responded to the incident following alert by the Allegany County 911 emergency center.
