The Cumberland Times News reports the results are back for 85 of the 286 samples from Western Maryland deer sent away by the state's wildlife agency to be tested for the presence of chronic wasting disease.
"They tested negative. No CWD was detected," said George Timko, a biologist with the Maryland Wildlife & Heritage Service. The samples came from deer harvested by hunters in Allegany County, both within and without of the established Chronic Wasting Disease Management Zone where the presence of CWD has been confirmed. That zone is roughly the eastern one-third of the county and includes the Green Ridge State Forest.
