MSA Produces Mixed Results Locally

July 17th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

Allegany County had a truly mixed bag when it comes to results of the Maryland School Assessment and High School Assessment test results.

Compared to the Maryland state average of students achieving proficiency, elementary and middle school students here did better on the MSA’s, scoring lower than the state average only in 7th and 8th grade reading, and 8th grade science.  In all other scores in reading, math and science in grades three through eight, local students scored above the statewide score.

Allegany County students scored lower than the state average in 2013 tests in Algebra, English and Biology.

The comparison was worse in the High School Assessment, as the percentage of Allegany County students passing was lower than the state average in all grades, 10 thru 12, and in all tests, which including Algebra, English, Biology and Government.
