Murder suspect arrested in Cumberland

A North Carolina man wanted in connection with a homicide last month in that state was taken into custody Tuesday when he turned himself into Maryland State Police at the Cumberland barrack.

Pursued by the U,S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and Maryland State Police, Brandon Jawon Pompey, 26, of Greensboro, N.C., was arrested at about 7 p.m. He is wanted on first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder charges and will be extradited to North Carolina following arraignment in Baltimore.


The Cumberland Times News reports the charges stemmed from the July 11, 2014, shooting that occurred in the Timber Hollow Apartments parking lot. Clarence Eugene Toran Jr., 24, died in the incident that wounded 22-year-old Terrence Allen Toran.


Police said Pompey was believed to have been in Maryland since shortly after the shooting. He reportedly has family residing in Maryland.
