It is almost a chicken and egg scenario at Canal Place. There is a private developer apparently willing to invest as much as $15 million into getting a business up and running in the Footer Dye Works building- but not unless the building is stabilized and some repairs are made. Local lawmakers are somewhat skeptical about attempting to secure state dollars for the Canal Place Authority unless the developer commits- in writing- to the project. The developer has not been identified publicly, but Delegate Leroy Myers is aware of the group and calls it very legitimate and a project the local officials should be enthusiastic about.
