Myers Prepares for Final General Assembly

January 3rd, 2014 by WCBC Radio

The 2014 session of the Maryland General Assembly officially opens next Wednesday at 12 noon- and while there will be plenty on the plates of lawmakers during the 90 day window- the session should be devoid of major controversies. First and foremost, although there is a growing budget deficit to address, talks of significant tax hikes may be non existent given that this is an election year.  The 2014 session will be the final one for Delegate Leroy Myers. Myers, a republican  who represents portions of Allegany and Washington counties, came into the 1C twelve years ago having pulled one of the bigger political upsets in recent memory by defeating House Speaker Casper Taylor.  After 11 years at the statehouse,  Myers has decided to stay closer to home- having filed to run for a seat on the Washington County Board of Commissioners. Myers said that while there are just four members in the delegation representing western Maryland- citizens in this region have been, and will be well represented by that group.
