Myers Steps Down From House Seat

December 3rd, 2014 by WCBC Radio

LeRoy Myers was officially sworn in as a Washington County Commissioner in ceremonies Tuesday, having resigned his House of Delegates 1C seat the day before.  An individual in Maryland is prohibited from holding two elected offices concurrently, leading to Myer’s resignation from the House on Monday in order to clear the way for his taking county office.  With 1C Delegate-elect Mike Mckay still holding office as an Allegany County Commissioner until December 18th- the 1C seat will not have an elected representative until House members are sworn into office on January 14thth. Until that time, Allegany County Commissioner-elect Jake Shade will essentially man the 1C office in his current position as legislative aide- a position he has held during Myers last term in office.  It should be noted that no official action or business will be conducted by the legislature between now and the January 14thh swearing in. Newly sworn in Washington County Commissioner LeRoy Myers tells WCBC News that while he is looking forward to his new role, a part of him will miss his time in Annapolis…
