N. Centre Street crash

On Tuesday, at approximately 11:55 a.m., the Cumberland Police Department responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle crash which took place in front of 507 N. Centre Street.  Upon the officers arrival contact was made with the female operator, Joy Lee Cunningham, age 87, Cumberland, MD.  Cunningham stated that she was traveling north on N. Centre Street when she experienced a mechanical problem with her vehicle causing her to lose control.  As a result Cunningham’s vehicle traveled off the roadway, onto the sidewalk continuing north then striking a utility pole and the front corner of the building located at 507 N. Centre Street. 

Cunningham was operating a 2002 Toyota passenger car. 

The building sustained minor damage to the trim of the door casing.  The utility pole also sustained minor damage, Verizon employees responded to the scene to check the condition of the utility pole. 

The Cumberland Fire Department responded to the scene and checked Cunningham and her two adult passengers.  None of the occupants in the vehicle including Cunningham were transported to the hospital. 

N. Centre Street at Valley Street was closed for approximately a half an hour while the vehicle was towed from the scene.
