Nearly 48,000 Marylanders Filed Unemployment Insurance Claims Last Week

Maryland Department of Labor officials report nearly 48,000 Maryland residents filed unemployment insurance claims last week, down over 14,000 from the previous week. WBAL reports that in the week ending in April 18,  47,545 Maryland residents filed for unemployment benefits with the Maryland Department of Labor Division of Unemployment Insurance amid the coronavirus outbreak.  The previous week, 61,770 residents filed claims. Locally, 551 Allegany County residents filed, with 220 filing in Garrett County.  Baltimore, Montgomery and Prince George's counties had the highest amount of residents to file claims.
