Citizen advocate Marc Nelson once again was rebuffed in his attempt to solicit information about the recent transaction between the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation and Cumberland Gateway Real Estate. The move, which was finalized in late March, turns over the Rolling Mill project to a development partner- based in Frederick. For several months Nelson has been attempting to find out the terms of the contract- however since the CEDC is a private corporation- those numbers have not been released by the city. During this week’s meeting of the Cumberland City Council, Nelson took issue with Mayor Brian Grim’s pronouncement that the CEDC is a private corporation and an independent agency- and is not a branch of city government.
