The goal is to have the new Allegany County Sheriff’s office opened for business by the spring of next year- and things are advancing smoothly to date. On Thursday, the county commissioners accepted a low bid of $422,765 by a contractor who will build the shell of a new home for the Sheriff’s Office. County Administrator David Eberly said that the project will involve both the construction of the shell building by Harbel, Inc., part of the Cumberland-based Belt Group, and work by county employees outfitting the inside of the building.
