Before a standing room only crowd, the Cumberland Mayor and City Council heard near unanimous community support to see a new Allegany High School located at the former Sacred Heart Hospital- however other portions of the proposed land swap between the city, the school board and the Western Maryland Health System were subject to sharp criticism. 20 people addressed the council on the plan which would see the health system donate the Sacred Heart site to the school board for the new school, while in exchange getting 40 acres of land adjacent to Constitution Park from the city.
