New Animal Shelter Campaign Underway

A campaign to help raise funds for a new animal shelter in Allegany County got  under way in earnest this past weekend, supported by two large donations and a major fundraising event. The Shelter’s Management Foundation announced plans earlier this year for capital campaign to construct an 11,000-square-foot adoption and care facility near the site of the current animal shelter. Becky McClarran, vice president of the foundation, announced Thursday a founding gift to establish the Shelter of Hope capital campaign fund at the Community Trust Foundation and the first symbolic Founder Share contribution to the capital campaign by Susquehanna Bank and by Kim and Marion Leonard- totaling $12,500. The highlight of this past weekend’s Barktoberfest activities was Friday night’s concert by The Travelin’ McCourys, Frost Mountain Revival and Half-Lit at the Windsor Castle Event Center, formerly the National Guard Armory, on North Centre Street.
