August 13th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

Superintendent of Schools, Dr. David Cox, announced today the appointments of Jeffrey Avey and Charles Moran as Assistant Principals at South Penn Elementary School and Mt. Savage School, respectively, beginning this school year. Avey replaces Heather Morgan as AP at South Penn, and Moran replaces Tracey Wharton as AP at Mt. Savage.

Additionally, Tessa Fairall will serve as the Acting Assistant Principal at Washington Middle School, filling the vacancy left by Avey’s move to South Penn, and Shannon Imes will serve as Acting Assistant Principal at George’s Creek Elementary/Westmar Middle, filling the vacancy left by Moran’s move to Mt. Savage for the 2015-2016 school year.

According to Dr. Cox, “I am very pleased to announce these appointments as we continue to focus on instructional leadership and as APs grow and develop to be our next generation of school leaders.”

Jeffrey Avey earned his Bachelor of Science degree in music education and his Master of Education degree in administration and supervision, both from Frostburg State University.  He has also completed additional coursework in music at Kent State and Duquesne Universities. Avey has taught music in ACPS from 1997-2013 when he assumed the position of assistant principal at Washington Middle School.

Avey is very pleased about his new position.  “As someone who already served as administrator in the same feeder system and as a parent of a young man who once attended South Penn, it will be a great honor to serve the school, and I am looking forward to this opportunity.”

Charles Moran earned his Bachelor of Science degree in early childhood/elementary education and his Master of Education degree in administration and supervision. He began his career in ACPS in 2002 as a fifth grade teacher at South Penn Elementary School.  Moran has also served as a Title I teacher, an elementary math specialist and most recently as the assistant principal at George’s Creek and Westmar.

When asked how he felt about his new position, Moran stated, "I am excited to work with the Mt. Savage students, teachers, and community, and I am looking forward to a successful 2015-2016 school year.  I'd like to thank the Westmar and George's Creek communities for such a great experience during the last two years."

Ms. Fairall and Ms. Imes have both also served the school system in a number of capacities over the years.  Fairall began her career in ACPS in 2001 as a fourth grade teacher at Cash Valley.  She has also taught third grade and most recently served as an elementary math specialist.  Imes started in ACPS in 1992 as a school counselor at John Humbird.  She has also held positions as a fourth grade teacher, a Title I teacher, and administrative assistant, and an assistant principal.
