New Counties Joining Coalition for Rural Maryland Interests

Allegany County Commission President Mike McKay is hopeful that two additional counties will join a coalition of Maryland counties getting ready to protect rural interests in next year’s General Assembly session. Allegany County is a charter member of the group. Dorchester and Somerset were the latest to join last month. The Maryland Rural Counties Coalition was formed in 2011 to lobby for rural interests during the 2012 General Assembly session. McKay said there is every intention for that effort to continue in 2013, with a stronger voice because of the new members. McKay has meetings with Wicomoco and Caroline county officials this week. An organizational  meeting will be held next week to establish bylaws and elect officers…
