New County Budget A Work in Progress

The Allegany County Commissioners are not set to adopt then FY 2013-1024 budget until early June- and it will be a steady work in progress for Finance Director Jason Bennett until then. Bennett told the county commissioners in a recent work session that while the budget features no new revenues, the county will face fewer state cuts, barring something unexpected. In a good news/bad news report, Bennett noted that while real estate assessments are coming in about a percent lower, which means $400,000 less in county coffers, income tax revenues are increasing. Last year, particularly after the state considered adopting a dooms day budget, the county seriously considered layoffs and furloughs- however Bennett says that shouldn’t be necessary this go around…
