New Enhanced School Security System Goes Into Effect Today

The new, enhanced school security system goes into effect today as the 2013-2014 Allegany County school years officially gets underway. The Board of Education announced in early August that three veterans of the law enforcement community have been hired to serve as school security officers. The hiring of the three retired officers, who will provide a security rotation for schools outside the city, was disclosed during the board’s monthly meeting. The three officers, who were introduced at the meeting, were: Steve Wininger, a 21-year-veteran of the Maryland State Police; Timothy Stevens, a 28-year-veteran from the Frostburg State University Police Department and Brian Hughes, a 24-year-state police veteran.
