New Executive Director Of Canal Place Starts Monday

This coming Monday will be the first official day on the job for the new executive director of Canal Place Heritage Area- and there are some tough challenges waiting. The most glaring problem being the lack of tenants at the Shops at Canal Place. Deidra “Dee Dee” Ritchie was hired earlier this month, filling the seat that had been held for almost three years by Renee Bone who resigned in February. Ritchie, of Frostburg, is leaving her job as manager of the Garrett County Heritage Area to take the position. Andy Vick, Chair of the Canal Place Development and Preservation Authority, tells WCBC News that there are no shortage of issues that need to be addressed in order to turn Canal Place into the economic benefit most thought it would be by this point…
