New Industrial Building Highlights Recent Economic Development

November 26th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

Construction of a new industrial shell building at the Barton Business Park was the highlight of an economic development update presented to the Allegany County Commissioners this month. Commission President Mike Mckay said the new building provides a tremendous opportunity for economic development opportunities. Matthew Diaz, the county’s director of economic and community development, reported that the shell building would be a good way to move forward- with the plan calling for  a 40,000-square-foot structure, that could be expanded to another 40,000 square feet if needed. The park is the home of American Woodmark.  Mckay called this just another step in the right direction for local economic development efforts. Using baseball terminology, Mckay said that while the county may not have hit any “homeruns” in terms of major, large employers doing business in the county- there have been dozens of smaller scale, incremental improvements.
