New Park and Ride in Garrett County

September 21st, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is constructing a 37-space park and ride facility on MD 42 (Friendsville Road) near MD 742 (Maple Street), which turns into a ramp to westbound I-68 (National Freeway). The new lot will be complete spring 2019.

“There has been growing demand for ridesharing facilities in Garrett County,” said MDOT SHA District Engineer Anthony Crawford. “Motorists were parking on the shoulders, this lot will provide ample parking off of the roadway.”

During construction, MDOT SHA’s contractor, Carl Belt, Inc. of Cumberland, is permitted to close a single lane Mondays through Fridays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

All MDOT SHA park and ride lots offer free parking and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Click here for an electronic map of all MDOT SHA ridesharing facilities.

While MDOT SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
