New Program Will Result in City Public Housing Upgrades

Some significant upgrades in Cumberland’s public housing will be taking place as a result of a new program being developed. During this week’s meeting of the city council, the council approved a resolution supporting the Housing Authority’s application for $365,700 in Strategic Demolition and Smart Growth Impact funding financing for the demolition and redevelopment of targeted properties within the community. This represents a total of twelve properties located on Virginia Avenue; Arch Street; Pennsylvania Avenue; and Maryland Avenue. In addition to constructing new homes at those locations, Steve Kesner, CEO of the newly reorganized Cumberland Housing Corporation says that funding is being secured to provide significant upgrades to the Fort Cumberland Homes; JFK; Jane Frazier Village and Queen City Towers…
