New School Menus in Schools

When students returned to school last month- they discovered they were getting twice the amount of vegetables and fruits on their meal trays, as well as more whole grains, and less salt and unhealthy fats. The updated school meal standards, unveiled by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in January, have been highly praised by health and education groups, including the nonprofit Center for Science in the Public Interest.     This new healthy menu is a waste of money. I have heard from several teachers that the new food isn’t touched at all and tons are thrown out. The children still go for the unhealthy french fries etc. For this to work perhaps they should stop with unhealthy foods and only have the approved healthy food available.
