New Shelter Plans on Track

The idea of having a new, modern animal shelter in Allegany County is moving ahead- abeit at a relatively slow pace, drew a bit closer to reality Monday.  Shelter Director Karl Brubaker presented a brief update on the project Tuesday afternoon when he addressed the Cumberland Rotary Club. He said thanks in large part to the efforts of  the Allegany County Animal Shelter Management Foundation- the project has remained on track and these is a great deal of optimism that it will come to fruition sooner rather than later. Stoiber and Associates has been retained as the architecture firm and those officials met recently with Brubaker to further discuss the project that would create a state-of-the-art animal care and adoption facility. The current shelter is located on a 3 1/2-acre site on Furnace Street- and Brubaker said the building is simply inadequate to meet the needs of a growing operation…
