Less than two weeks after Allegany County Commissioner Bill Valentine announced at a public meeting that a new five year contract between the county and DelFest representatives had been agreed too- it appears that deal is now dead. DelFest, the annual bluegrass music festival that has been held at the Allegany County Fairgrounds for the past nine years, will see its current contract expire in 2017. A spokesman for Bluegrass Legend Del McCoury, appearing on WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” after Valentine’s comments suggested there were still some unresolved issues- but those were downplayed by Valentine and County Administrator David Eberly who both insisted a new deal was close at hand. On Tuesday, on his facebook page, Valentine posted a vague message suggesting that the deal fell apart due to “interference” causing “hard feelings”. The message goes on to say that he hopes that a one year extension of the existing contract can be agreed to, at which time talks can continue toward a new deal. He suggested he will try to “heal” the hard feeling that apparently have developed .
