North End Power Outage

January 28th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

Due to equipment problems at the Corriganville Sub Station, apparently from an explosion and fire, at approximately 6:15am, about 1800 customers in Allegany County lost electric power.  Communities effected are Corriganville, Locust Grove, LaVale, Ellerslie, Mount Savage, Wellersburg, Homewood areas and Cumberland's north end.

WCBC was off the air for approximately an hour due to the power outage and is operating on generator power.

Representatives from Potomac Edison are indicating the crews are working hard to redirect power and have the power restored in those areas.  The best estimate they could provide in terms of when power would be restored was approximately 4:30pm today.  However, they cautioned that time is only an estimate.

WCBC will provide updates as they become available.

The breakdown of those affected include nearly all of Corriganville and Ellerslie, about a third of Mount Savage, nearly 800 in the North End of Cumberland, and about 170 in lower Lavale.
