North South Corridor Section Gets Federal OK

August 1st, 2014 by WCBC Radio

The Federal Highway Administration has accepted the Tier I Environmental Impact Statement for the Maryland portion of the North South Corridor.

The Tier I study focused on a corridor a little less than a mile wide which would take the corridor from Interstate 68 to just south of Cresaptown.  That route is generally near Winchester Road prior to linking up with US Route 220.

The Tier II study would narrow the corridor to about the length of a football field, and could be completed within the next three years. The corridor has long been planned to go along Route 220 south to the West Virginia line, but a specific destination would be dependent upon a junction that similar studies in the Mountain State would select.

WCBC News has been reporting on efforts of The Greater Cumberland Committee to reinvigorate interest in the project among the West Virginia Congressional delegation.
